Catalogs - Any softbound magazines or catalogs. Staples and labels
okay.
Corrugated Cardboard - This brown-box material looks wavy in the middle
sandwiched between two flat pieces. Flatten and place in roll cart
or tie with twine and place under recycle basket to keep from blowing away
in the wind. Also includes paper bags.
Dry Cell Batteries -
Household batteries are now recyclable curbside.
Sizes: AAAA 9-volt cells, Flashlight, Toy, Radio, Smoke
Detector. Lantern batteries 6-9 volt. Rechargable: NiCd, NiMH, and
Lithium Ion.
Small button cells - Calculators, Hearing aid, and Watch.
NO LEAD ACID CAR BATTERIES. Place only dry cell batteries into airtight zipper lock bags and
place into basket
(Keep separate from other recyclables).
Glass - Bottles and jars only! Keep colors separate:
clear/green/brown. Label okay. Metal lids can be left on or put
metal lid into tin/aluminum bag. Discard plastic lids.
Grayboard - This type of cardboard is typically made into boxes for
cereal, shoes, soups, crackers, cookies, etc. Also includes the back of
notepads, paper egg cartons, construction paper, paper towel and toilet
tissue tubes. Flatten. Sorry, no waxed or frozen food containers.
Latex Paint - Up to 2 one-gallon cans can be placed curbside weekly.
Must be clean. Must include label.
NO OIL BASED PAINTS. Latex paint is re-mixed locally and distributed
free to citizens for graffiti cover-up base paint. Want

Magazines - Any soft cover magazine can be combined with catalogs.
Mixed Scrap Paper - Some folks call this junk mail! Unwanted mail must be opened. Remove
mail from envelopes (labels - windows okay). Also includes advertising
flyers, brilliant colored paper, brochures, computer paper and carbonless
forms, greeting cards, holiday gift wrap (no foil, tape, etc.), paper
bags (any color), paper labels from cans, post-it notes, shredded paper,
tablet paper (put backs with grayboard), white and colored ledger paper.
Motor Oil - Always recycle your used motor oil - it saves the most energy
when recycled instead of made new. Pour carefully into a double rinsed
plastic milk or juice jug. Must have a twist on cap for
protection during transport. Up to two gallons per week can be
placed curbside.
Newspaper - Read it and recycle it! Anything that comes in the newspaper can be
recycled with the newspaper.
Plastic Milk Jugs - Rinse thoroughly and flatten. (discard the lid).
Plastic Bottles - Includes any color plastic bottle with the number 1-7 imprinted on the
bottom.... Look for the recycle symbol next to the number. Rinse (discard
the lid).
Plastic Tubs - This category includes rigid plastic containers. Margarine tubs, yogurt
cups, cottage cheese tubs, and clear plastic containers from the deli.
Rinse. (Lids from tubs are okay.) Look for #1-7, okay to include with
plastic milk jugs and plastic bottles (Jugs, bottles, and tubs can be
combined in Salem and Salem UGB).
Tin and Aluminum - Peel off the labels (labels go with scrap paper)
clean and flatten. Aluminum; remove all non-aluminum parts, rinse
and flatten. Foil, T.V. dinner trays, pop tops and out of state cans are
okay. It's okay to combine tin cans and aluminum.
